Show conservationists hold district meeting the supervisors of the kane county soil conservation district met friday in tho the district office in kanab supervisors present were preston bunting rell hell little and gu guy chamberlain I 1 of Or orderville derville clyde T lowe and earl Spend Alove lovo represented the soil conservation service mr conducted the meeting and rell little kept the minutes the primary purpose of the meeting was to prepare the annual report which Is duo due tile the end of this month the report lit in part Is as aa follows A great deal of most of the various conservation practices were completed during 1949 ambre so than in 1948 1943 although we fell behind on a tev few practices such as contour farming and sell boll savail saving g dikes we made up tor for them on other practices such as seeding of range improved wier vater ter application and farm laterals literals late rals and field ditches wo we got a good start on land leveling and would have completed 30 or 40 acres more if earthmoving earth moving e equipment quip trient had been available and it if the ground frozen up so soon JS several everal fields were staked and ready to level when the ground froze up this year as in the past we have made every effort to improve the quality ot of the conservation work on the land and our efforts are showing results especially ally on irrigated land wh where ere land leveling and irrigation structures are showing a dell definite improvement imi I 1 pro during 1948 the soll soil conservation service furnished us with some of harder to got get and more expensive grass seed the most of this oils seed was let out to cooperators who are planting it far seed production of these newer grasses tall wheatgrass wheat grass Is showing up especially well on Mare marcellus ellus johnsons olins onla p place I 1 a e e at glendale where it has haa been fertilized an and d irrigated it grew from tour four to six feet tall data collected so far indicates that this grass will produce at least a ton ot of hay aind from to 1000 pounds of seed per acre tile the higher yields of course arse conio come from rom Irrig irrigated atea and fertilized land besides tall wheat gross grass tilter intermediate mediate and stiff hair wheatgrass wheat grasa grass have shown up well besides tile the annual report the a supervisors discussed the matter ot of attending the anual soil boll con District meetings in lo 10 gall gaii an february 1 2 and 3 it it Is possible some of tile the supervisors plan to attend earl |
