Show v TESTING PIPES AND TILES IN MECHANICS LABORATORY In the mechanical laboratory this year and from the regular class experimental work there has been an exceedingly large amount of work done on material testing Some of the most important important important im im- and prolonged tests have been beert on road materials both binders and wearing coats This work is being done at the instigation of the State Road Commissions in connection with the general general gen gen- eral movement for obtaining better roads throughout the country Considerable work ha has also been done at testing the factor and crushing strength of sewer pipe and drain tiles A carload of this pipe has been received from a Denver manufacturer and a large amount from local firms Mr Bill Kelsey is conducting the tests at present in connection with his thesis making examinations of pipe from 4 to 27 inches in diameter Other material examined are cement cement ce ceo ment brick a large variety of hollow tile for inside inside inside in in- side wall construction and cement sand and stone for concrete One of the most novel tests made was that on the strength of bindings for several school books n 0 |
