Show LIVESTOCK GROWERS SEE RESULTS RESULT S OF PROPER FEEDING farmers bankers professional men and housewives attended the second annual livestock feeders day at the utah state agricultural college friday the main purpose ot of the program gr am was to show allow the results ot of a feeding experiment in which different lots ot of steers had been fed different rations for the past season the value ot of phosphorus in beet byproduct rations waa was amply remonstrated by cattle fattened in the experiment just completed at the utah experiment station according to dean E J maynard who had charge of the file experiment each of the three phosphorus supplements steamed bono bone meal co cottonseed cake and mill run bran used in the test more than doubt ed ad the amount of beet produced on a ration composed of wet beet pulp beet molasses alfalfa hay and salt and suspected of being too low in phosphorus tor for optic uni um results blood tests testa made during the progress of the experiment everl ment substantiated the feedlot results la in indicating an increased phosphorus content where the supplements were used grain alone was waa insufficient in remedying this deficiency said dean maynard cattle fattened on pulp molasses alfalfa and salt a ration commonly used in the past gained only 91 6 pounds and at a teed feed cost of S 42 per cwt cat while thes the ad of cottonseed cake mill run bran or steamed bone meal increased the average gains to 2508 8 and 2513 pounds respectively arid and reduced teed feed costs per cwt cat of grain to and 13 11 the dean pointed out devitt david P smith commissioner of agriculture joseph anderson anderaon president of the state farm bureau john hansen president of the state board of agriculture harden bennion Benn lon former commissioner and many eminent live stock and business men of the state were in attendance |
