Show DIXIE COLLEGE LEASED FOR TWO YEAR PERIOD PER kofl the leasing ot of dixie college to the citizens of st george for or a period ot of two years beginning july 1 was authorized at a meeting ot of the state batata board ot of education monday manday at salt lake city the lease Is to be approved by the state board of examiners which comprises governor henry 11 blood secretary of state milton 11 we welling and attorney general joseph chez before it becomes effective in accordance with the act et of the last legislature dixie college was taken over by the state school system as a part ot of the state junior college system saturday but the act made no provision tor for financing the institution an arrange arranga m mant arit of the kind adopted monday was found necessary it if the school Is to be kept open A group of school officials and st george citizens who met with the board gave assurances that enough money will bo be raised to operate the school without cost coat to the state and up to the standard pr prescribed by the state board of education i under the tomis terms of the lease I 1 tho thie hoard board will proscribe prescribe courses of study and standards ot of scholarship qualifications ot of teachers salaries tees fees and the board however will refuse to be responsible tor for any contracts wh which h might mean cost to the stutz those who met with the board were joseph joaeph K K nicholes president of dixie college william 0 bentley president of the st george stake of 0 the L D S church W NV mcarthur member of the board of trustees ot of the college D 11 morris president ot of the bank of st george and joseph eckersley attorney representing the L L S church it Is reported that the washington county board of education will contribute 56 55 per pupil for all j students below college grade that the L D S ch church ach will contribute and st george citizens it has bee been estimated that it would take about per year to operate the institution with a high school enrollment of which Is about the number in the high school at cedar city the 55 56 per capita would bring which with the church and citizens totals the balance would have to come from rom from college students ind and other sources |
