Show One-on-one basketball program sponsored by Extension Service Sign-up- for one-on-one basketball for youth ages 9 through 14 is currently under way. This is the second vear the program has been sponsored by Utah State University through the 4-H Program, according to Lynn Esplin, Iron County Ex tension Agent. Participants will compete with other youth their same age in one-on-one competition. County winners will play other county winners in a five county area play-off the third week in February. The age group win- state will be invited with their parents to Utah State University on February 28 to compete for the state championship in the USU Spectrum. There will be six age catagories for competition - 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 year olds. To compete as a 9 year old, participants par-ticipants must be 9 by January 1, 1976. The same date applies for all age groups. Separate competition com-petition for girls will be conducted con-ducted if there is enough interest. Practices and county competition com-petition will take place at the Cedar Junior High School gym at 1:00 p.m. beginning January 10. In addition to the basketball competition, participants will complete lessons on: (1) skills and conditioning, (2) foods, (3) sportsmanship, (4) grooming, and (5) first aid for athletic injuries. in-juries. Cost per person is 20 cents for lesson manuals for those who do not have one from last year. Sign-up sheets are available at the Elementary School Offices, Jr. High School P. E. Department, Depart-ment, or the Iron County Extension Ex-tension Office. |
