They reported several fires in the surrounding hills caused by lightning but none of those were serious. PAROWAN - Thunder showers and hail storms accompanied by excessive lightning concentrations caused considerable anxiety, and damage last Thursday evening in and around Parowan Close to one inch of rain flooded basements and some roads. A lightning bolt hit near four Parowan High School Cross Country runners run-ners who were training with a run up Parowan Canyon. The accident happened near the mouth of the Canyon by the Larry Pendleton home. Tom Haycock son of Mr. and Mrs. Benson Haycock was also with the group but was not knocked off his feet by the lightning. The Parowan City Pump Well was so badly damaged by a lightning bolt that temporary rationing has been in effect in Parowan since Sunday w ith no outside watering to be allowed until the motor can be replaced. 35 tons of hay belonging to Leland Freeborn was burned that same night with more badly smoke damaged, with lightning suspected as the cause of the fire. Sam Listers trailer home in Paragonah was badly burned as a result of lightning, hitting a power pole near his home. No one was home at the time and no 2 injuries were reported there.
