She arrived at 2:30 a.m. January 1 and weighed in at seven pounds five ounces. She will be named Kirsten. "It was rather unexpected although we had joked about the possibility," Mrs. Carl Nelson, mother of the "1978 Baby of the Year," born at the Valley View Medical Center. "Actually the baby was expected December 15. On Friday, Dec. 30 the doctor told me it would be another week," she said. But, despite all the predictions, the joking, Mrs. Nelson the former Cathy Nelson of Midvale, did in fact have the new-baby new-baby of 1978. The new addition to the Nelson family, to be named Kirsten, checked in at 2:30 a.m. Jan. 1, 1978. She weighed in at seven pounds and five ounces. The Nelsons reside in Cedar Valley and they have three children at home including in-cluding Kari, 9; Lori 8; and Carl, five. Carl the father of the 1978 Baby of the Year, is a native of Cedar City. He works in construction. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Barr Brinton of Midvale and Mr. and Mrs. Garth (Bud) Nelson of Cedar City. Vieing for the honors was Mrs. James Dalton of Cedar City. Their new arrival just beat the new year arriving at 10 :30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31. "We were really surprised, but very happy," Mrs. Nelson stated. Kirsten and her mother will receive a bevy of special gifts and prizes donated by Cedar City merchants. |
