Show Commission considers new garbage questions, close out 1976 bills In their final meeting of the year, the 1976 Board of Iron County Commissioners heard questions concerning the newly established garbage special service district and closed out all remaining bills. Questioning the boundaries of the garbage district, Jess Pickett said he was concerned whether D & O Sanitation can provide an adequate service to outlying farms for the price requested. Pickett said he felt soon the garbage company would want mose money to reach the scattered scat-tered Parowan Valley farms and rancht. The oomniissioners expressed the opiniqn that the ordinance as written would require the franchise to pick up the garbage at present. . They empharUed, however, that in time there may be deletions or ammendments to the special service district as problems are incurred. With Pickett present, the commission discussed problems with using revenue sharing funds for garbage disposal and state open burning laws which necessitated, in part, the establishment of the district. The commission also discussed the proposal to make part of the present Cedar Breaks National Monument a winderness area. Out-going Commissioner Ivan Maiheson expressed his disapproval of the proposal, stating it would be against the economic and water development develop-ment interests of the county. He urged the 1977 commission to act against the measure as soon as , possible. The commission also extended to March 1 all tax notices not received until December 15 or later. Sheriff Ira Schoppman was present at the meeting with business concerning raises for the personnel within his department. He made a plea to the commissioners to consider making application to be a third class county, as the salary benefits would enable his department to be competitive with other law enforcement agencies. |
