Clark announced that the District Court of Honor will not be held In January because be-cause each troop is being asked ask-ed to hold its own Court of I Honor In connection with Its own scout banquet during I Scout Week. Next regularly scheduled ' ' District Court of Honor will be held Feb. 23, he said. Scout Troop To Compete on Advancement S. M. (Did) Clark, advancement advance-ment chairman for the Cedar Breaks District, Boy Scouts of America, reports that a contest con-test between the troops in the district is being conducted this year. Purpose of the contest, he stated, is to provide competition competi-tion and challenge between the troops for greater anvanee-ment anvanee-ment among the scouts. ; The contest will be based ' on rank advancement, Scout spirit and attendance of the h scouts, troop leaders and parents par-ents at tli.-j monthly Courts of Honor. The Coleman Company of Cedar City is donating a large ; 10 foot by 13 foot tent for the grand prize. Robert Sloan, manager of the Coleman plant, reports that the tent is the new 1969 "Oasis" model. In addition to the grand prize, a traveling trophy will be presented to the troop win- : ning each quarter. The grand prize will be presented to the troop having the highest to- ' tal accumulative points for the year. The quarterly prizes are be- ing donated by Hunter Hard- ware and Iron County Lumber Lum-ber and one is being donated by the Cedar Breaks District - committee and the other one ' is a personal donation by a committee member. The purpose of the Scout advancement ad-vancement program is to help fulfill the needs for a boy's growth. The requirements of the ranks combine group and personal experience to help a boy be physically strong, mentally awake and morally ' straight, to help make him k self-reliant, encourage him to think of others, and through learned skills, make It possible possi-ble for him to help others. Advancement emphasizes his :' service obligations to his home, school, church, commu-I commu-I nity, and nation and helps de- velop his leadership ability, i It helps develop his skills as an outdoorsman and provides opportunities for exploration . in areas of personal interest, and to improve his ability to ,1 . .. |
