Show Utah Symphony Orchestra set to appear in Cedar City on Nov. 20 The second offering of the Cedar City Music Arts Series will be the Utah Symphony, scheduled to perform here November No-vember 20. The orchestra will give three concerts during the day. Morning and afternoon programs will be especially for public school students. Maestro Maurice Abravanel, in his twenty-third season with the Utah Symphony, will conduct the evening concert for Music Arts patrons. Mr. Abravenel was born in Greece and was educated and received his musical training in Switzerland, Germany and other European countries. He conducted many orchestras in Europe and Australia, as well as opera and ballet at the Berlin, Paris, and Metropolitan Operas, before taking over the fledgling Utah Symphony in 1947. He has since guided the orchestra through provincialism, provincial-ism, through one financial crisis after another, and through the orchestra's growing grow-ing pains to the point where it is now classed as a major orchestra enjoying international interna-tional acclaim. One of Mr. Abravanel's accomplishments has been his dedication to youth and their involvement in symphonic music. mu-sic. His proven philosophy: "Children respond to good music mu-sic if given the opportunity." Hence the orchestra's ever-expanding program of school with choral and instrumental concerts wherein hundreds of students perform with the orchestra. or-chestra. The recording program of the Utah Symphony has no parallel among orchestras of comparable size. There are currently oyer 50 Utah Symphony Sym-phony recordings on the Vanguard Van-guard and Westminster labels, la-bels, with over 700,000 record sold. . |
