Show Republicans name city candidates, Independent files With 'over 60 members of the party in attendance, and taking an active part, the Republican Re-publican Party nominating convention, had quite a number num-ber of persons aspiring to run on the ticket for the Parowan City Council. Several ballots had to be taken, we understand under-stand to name the ticket. As a result of the balloting the partie's ticket for the forth coming election will consist of Richard T. Harris, incumbent, nominated to succeed himself; him-self; DeVon Deppe and Ry Benson, the latter two being new to politics in Parowan. Mr. Deppe, has been a resident resi-dent of Parowan for a little over a year, is at present an instructor in the accounting department at SUSC in Cedar City, and was recently named as a counselor in the First Ward bishopric. Benson, a long time employee of U. S. Steel Co., who recently became a partner in a local eating establishment, es-tablishment, is now a member mem-ber of the Third Ward bishopric. bishop-ric. A new angle in the coming municipal election developed on Monday morning, when a filing was made for an independent inde-pendent candidate for a post on the city council. A petition with the required number of signatures was filed with Dennis Den-nis Lowder, city recorder that morning, placing the name of Wayne Hermansen on the tic- ket. Mr. Lowder states that such a petition must contain the signatures of at least 25 resident resi-dent voters, and this one contained con-tained more than that. He adds that most of the names Ion the petition were of the younger group, seeking representation repre-sentation on the city governing govern-ing body. Hermansen was at the Republican nominating convention, taking an active part, we are told. Acting as chairman of the Republican meeting was A. C. Hatch, precinct chairman, and Mrs. Alta Adams, was the secretary. |
