Boyd C'hristensen, Chairman :f the ASC Committee, explained ex-plained the three niembers of the committee and two em ployees of I he ASCS office will travel to Richfield Thursday, to attend the first of such meetings. The REAP will put great emphasis on practices to reduce re-duce water pollution. Installations Instal-lations such as buffer strips, grass cover, tree planting or water retaining dams and ponds are a major factor in reducing pollution from agrl- ' cultural wastes. Secretary (,J Agriculture, Clifford Hardin said REAP w-iill focus efforts on ommunity sponsored projects pro-jects for pollution abatement, and tlie safeguarding of lakes and streams. Mr. C'hristensen explained that farmers and others participating par-ticipating in REAP projects will in most cases, pay an e.iual, or more than equal, amount of the costs. REAP updates up-dates the ACP conservation cost sharing program through which for many years the Federal Fed-eral Government and farmers have been partners in establishing estab-lishing conservation practices needed in the public interest. It is hoped that details of the new program will be developed de-veloped for announcement within the next two or three weeks. 1 . J |
