Thousands of dollars in scholarships are offered to those students doing extremely well on this nationwide nation-wide test. Randy Shirts, who took the test last year, has placed as one of the National Merit finalists from the state of Utah. ' Lynn Nelson was selected as student of the week because be-cause of popular demand. A petition was circulated last week among the studentbody requesting that Lynn receive this honor. Lynn has been a varsity wrestler and has attended State competition all three of his high school years. He took first place in the re-gion re-gion meet at Delta. ENOCH AND MTOVALLEY NEWS Last weekend the Cedar High basketball team won first place in the Region 8 Round Robin held in Fillmore, as well as earn a state berth in the tournament to be held event, will send an invitation to the boy each girl prefers. The National Merit Scholarship Scholar-ship Qualifying Test was given giv-en Tuesday to those juniors in Provo, March ld-lb. in winning win-ning the title, the Redmen defeated de-feated all three of the other teams gaining berths from Region Eight Delta, Dixie and Hurricane. The Redmen were supported well by the studentbody in the Round Robin as busses were taken to the games as well as many students going in private cars. The MoheyTawa, Cedar High's marching group, performed during half-time on Friday at the Cedar-Dixie' game. The pep band played under the direction of Lloyd ! Kenney. A dance sponsored by the "Ad-Lib"! staff was held Monday Mon-day night in the CSU ballroom. ball-room. It was held to get funds for the publication of Cedar High literary magazine. The Cedar High forensics team held a practice meet with Valley High on Monday. Cedar finished with eleven wins and four losses. The movie "Broken Arrow" was shown to the studentbody Wednesday afternoon. Spon- ' sored by the English depart- ment, it was shown in correla-! tion with the reading of the novel, about Cochise and J Thomas Jeffords. A journalism conference will ' be held tomorrow at the Uni-, versity of Utah. Representing Cedar High at the conference will be Eva Rae Grimshaw, Susan Walker, and Rita Stucki. I ; Mohey Tawa will hold their ' annual Preference Ball Satur- J day evening. Invitations from the girls of CHS have been J sent to their preferred man. It appears that the dance will be well attended. The annual Preference Ball J will be held on Saturday, Mar. 9. It is the second girl-ask- boy affair of the year. The J Pep Club, which sponsors this . |
