Wrestling Program Gets Boost With New Facilities The wrestling season forj members of the Parowan High School wrestling squad will get under way a week earlier than announced last week with Coach Lowell Caldwell's boys going to Richfield for a series of matches on Friday of this week with 30 members of the squad to make the trip. Richfield, which hosted the Class B meet in 1968, is reported to have a strong squad again this year. The next meet so far scheduled sched-uled for the Ram matmen is with the Dixie High squad, and is to be held here on Thursday, Dec 5. Other meets both at home and away, will be announced as they are arranged. ar-ranged. In the meantime the Paro-owan Paro-owan squad of apprxiomately 50 boys are hard at work getting get-ting ready for coming matches with the use of the new facilities facili-ties at the school this year. The first of these is a new wrestling mat which is 34 x 34 feet square with a wrestling wrest-ling circle 28 feet in diameter. diame-ter. Border of the mat is blue, the wrestling circle is yellow with a smaller blue center patch featuring a gold block "P" to use the school colors. The mat is in three sections which butt up close together and hold there. This new mat is used in the new auxiliary gymnasium, built as a portion of the new building program. This gym is 38 by 70 feet square and the new mat almost fills the width of the gym. This is not the only use for the new gym with other phases of the high school's physical education program, especially in the gymnastics area to be featured fea-tured as well as programs for girl students. The new gym will not be used for spectator sports, according ac-cording to Mr. Caldwell as there is no seating accommodations. accommo-dations. All competitive mat matches will be held in the regular high school gymnasium. |
