Show INCREASE DORM RENTALS CSU Trustees Approve Temporary Teacher Appointments at Board Meet At its regular monthly meeting held at College of Southern Utah Thursday, Jan. 12, the CSU Board of Trustees approved appointment appoint-ment of three temporary instructors instruc-tors in the Divisions of English and Language Arts, and Business, Busi-ness, raised 1967-68 rentals at two student residence halls, approved ap-proved out-of-state travel for two college departments, and acknowledged ac-knowledged and approved $4,138 in gifts and grants. Donald Miles was confirmed as temporary instructor in Spanish for winter quarter. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Brigham Young University in Spanish in 1962. He taught two years at Green River High School. He is presently teaching at Cedar City High School for the third year. Mrs. Elva O. Hatch will con tinue as temporary instructor in two sections of freshman English winter and spring quarters. She also filled the position fall quarter. quar-ter. She was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree from Utah State University with a major in speech and minor in English. She has taught part time at CSU on a number of occasions from 1945 until the present time. Heber A. Lund will also continue con-tinue winter quarter as a temporary tem-porary instructor in typewriting. He received a BS degree in business busi-ness education and is presently employed by a Cedar City Certified Certi-fied Accountant firm. The board approved increase of rental for Manzanita Court women's wo-men's residence to $105 per quarter quar-ter starting fall quarter, 1967 Current Cur-rent rental is $90 a quarter, An increase was also authorized for Oak Hall married students' apartments to $60 a month from $57. Summer housing rates will be increased 30 percent for special spe-cial groups using CSU facilities. Out-of-state travel approved included attendance by CSU Dean of Students in Colorado Springs, Colo. Jan. 25-29. Dr. Morris Mor-ris A. Shirts, chairman of the CSU Division of Education received re-ceived permission to attend the American Association of College Teacher Education Convention in Chicago, Illinois Feb. 14-19. Education Ed-ucation department staff members mem-bers also have permission to transport students to Las Vegas and Mesquite, Nev., to observe teaching methods during the quarter. Gifts and grants totaling $4,-189.83 $4,-189.83 were approved by the board. These include scholarships, scholar-ships, contributions to the library development fund, and memorial gifts to the Marvin Jones, Rose H. Lunt, and Iva Rich Jones funds. The board made a request that a letter of appreciation and commendation com-mendation be written to Professor D. L. Sargent in recognition of his many years of service to the college. Professor Sargent began be-gan his career at CSU in 1920 and assumed emeritis status in 1953. He has continued to participate parti-cipate in teaching at the college on a part time basis until this year when he found it necessary to retire because of illness. Tribute was also paid to Mary L. Bastow, CSU professor emeritus emer-itus of art, who died Jan. 9. Miss Bastow joined the CSU faculty in 1929. She was a guiding force in the culture of the college and community for many years. Thr Board of Trustees paid silent tribute tri-bute to her at the beginning of i the meeting. |
