Show Fishing Below Noriiial for Season Opesier day, but slowed down somewhat some-what Monday. Two trophy fish were taken from Duck Creek Springs. Dick Gunn of Cedar City pulled out a seven pound Rainbow early Saturday Satur-day morning and later in the day Dex Cowley, also of Cedar Ce-dar City pulled in a four, pounder from that heavily fished water. Navajo Lake had no pressure pres-sure on the opening. It was not stocked until early this week. Fish and Game department personnel indicate that It will be heavily stocked throughout through-out the week in anticipation of somewhat heavy pressure over the upcoming week end. High waters in the streams and generally unfavorable spring conditions accounted for a below average take on the opening week end of the Utah general fishing season. Creel reports indicated that limits on the opening day were the exception rather than the rule, although many limits were acquired by anglers in the southern Utah area. Although fishing was slow for the opening in comparison with other years fish were generally gen-erally bigger, the Kegional Office Of-fice of the Department of Fish and Game indicated. In Beaver County the hottest hot-test spot was apparently Little Reservoir where fishing was reported as fast with up to L . -. L I ,( .. ....... . ' ' Ms jffr i if W$ ' 111 four pounders taken. Kent's Lake and Willis Lake had catchables ranging in the 10 to 12 inch class. Both reported good for the opening. No success suc-cess was recorded at Puffer's Puf-fer's Lake, however, where there is still some Ice on the lake. In Iron County all reservoir areas were rated as about the same, from fair to good. At Paragonah fishing was slow with 12 to 14 inehers being taken. Best results were in the late evening fly fishing and by trolling. It was the same renort at Yankee Meadow with fair to good, best success was -nllinE: a"d fly fishing in the late evening. Newcastle was fair to good with one-half to three quar-fer quar-fer pounders being taken, however. how-ever. Enterprise reservoirs were slow. Eight to 14 inehers talc- i en with be.'U results from 8 to 3 in the evening fly fishing. Inaccessibility of Kolob Reservoir Res-ervoir from this area created j less pressure. Fishing was reported re-ported good, however, with a number of limits. Mostly Brook trout were taken in the 9 to 12 inch range with Rainbow, in lessor numbers from 12 up to 20 inches being reported. Duck Creek and Mirror Lake were good Saturday and Sun- TAKES BIG ONE. Dick Gunn of Cedar City took this seven pound Rainbow from Duck Creek Spring early on the opening day. In waders he captured the prize on a spinner with a four pound test line. |
