Show Students Complete Saturday Ski Class A successful sports class was concluded with examinations on the slopes for students at College Col-lege of Southern Utah Saturday, Mar. 12. Forty-two students enrolled en-rolled in the Saturday classes, 25 of whom had never skied before, be-fore, according to class Instructor Karl Lagerberg. After a full orientation In skiing ski-ing with safety the class went Into the practice of snowplowing, stem christy, parallel turns and other maneuvers. All of the beginners be-ginners were advanced to Intermediate Inter-mediate status during the 11-week 11-week training In downhill and slalom. Training site was the ski run one mile east of Wood's ranch in Cedar Canyon. Assisting with the training were members of the Rainbow Canyon Ski Club ot Cedar City. Instructors were: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ratte, Allen Day, Clay; ton Jones and Ken Lister. Mr. Lagerberg indicated that this year has been some of the best skiing for the past 10 years in the area. An average day would see some 60 to 70 ski enthusiasts en-thusiasts on the slope) Including students In the college class. Rainbow Canyon Ski Club members Indicated also that a project In cooperation with the Iron County Commission and the i Forest Service next summer will open up an excellent slope in Cedar Ce-dar Canyon about one mile In length. A road and parking area will be provided. As soon as work can begin, timber will be cut for a T-bar ski lift about 2000 feet up the slopes. Carl Croft has been operating the tow lift and will work on the new area also, according to Karl Lagerberg. "It Is hoped that the new slopes will be in readiness by snowtime next year," said Lagerberg. |
