Show Sons of Pioneers Get "Go Ahead" On Steel Monument The Sons of Utah Pioneers project pro-ject for the building of a replica repli-ca of the old Southern Iron Mission Mis-sion at Cedar City as a monument monu-ment to the pioneers who participated partici-pated in this historic western episode, was moved another step forward Friday when tentative approval of the plans was made by Sons of Utah Pioneers. Clem Judd, Cedar City chapter president, reports that the project pro-ject is to be a cooperative effort of the local, state and national organizations of the Sons of Utah Pioneers, and the steel companies compan-ies who have Iron mining operations opera-tions in this area. The project includes a blast furnace, 11 beehive-type furnaces, a water wheel, blower, pattern house, molding shed and administration admin-istration building and museum, Mr. Judd says. It will be located just north of Coal Creek and south of the cemetery on North Main street. The use of the five-acre plot of ground as a site for the project has been donated to the local chapter by Cedar City Corporation. Corpora-tion. Horace A. Sorensen, president presi-dent of the national SUP, stated that the site is Ideal In every respect re-spect for the proposed monument. |
