Show Encampment Ends For County 4-Hers The annual 4-H Club encomp-ment encomp-ment for Iron County broke up Saturday after two fun-packed and successful days, according to Wallace Sjoblom, Iron County Coun-ty agent, director of the camp. Activities got under way at noon Thursday and continued until noon Saturday with approximately ap-proximately 425 leaders, chaper-ones chaper-ones and 4 -Hers in attendance. At the election held Thursday Audrey Armstrong, 16, of Enoch was elected as camp mayor, and Helen Hulet, Parowan, won the position of scribe. Roddy Cox was named assistant scribe. Leon Maxwell, Enoch, was named as the outstanding 4-H boy of the encampment and Cora Lee Gibson, was named 4-H girl. This award is one of the most coveted by those in atendance at the camp and reflects high standards stan-dards on the part of recipients. Other awards were as follows: Clean camp, Lucky Clovers. Hamilton's Fort, first; Seven Clovers, Cedar City, second, with the Happy Homemakers and Cedar Ce-dar Chefs given honorable mention. men-tion. Camp Identification, Buzzic B's. Fancy Five, first, and Fairy Fun Club, second. Best 4-H Skit: Cedar Chefs, first, and the Fairy Cooks plus 2 Gay Notes, second. Most original song: Lltle Cupcakes, Cup-cakes, first; Kitchen Queens, sec. ond. Best song, Sewing Seven, first Nimble Thimbles 5 plus 3, second. At the annual log sawing contest, con-test, which has become a highlight high-light of the camp, and highly competitive as well, the results were as follows: Men leaders, Bryner Wood, Don Applegate, Beryl; women' leaders, Gretta Wood, Yvonne Chamber- lain, Parowan; older boys, Gene Boardman, Mike Williamson, Paragonah; older girls. Colleen Cox, Joline Vandenberghe, Hamilton's Ham-ilton's Fort; younger boys. Tommy Tom-my Benson, Billy Ridley, younger girls, Lenora Adams and Crystal Crys-tal Lawrence. I First place winner in the count the bean contest was Qan-et Qan-et Gurr and the booby prize was' awarded Kent Dalton, both of Parowan. Belt design contest was won by another Parowan 4-Her, Sandra Orton. Scavenger hunt awards went to the Cedar Chefs of Cedar City; Grease Monkeys, Paragonah and the Lookie Kookies of Cedar City. |
