Show Council Agrees to Youth Program, Appoints Physician. Approves Bid Cedar City Council, meeting In regular session Thursday, Mar. 1, agreed to participate in a program pro-gram sponsored by the Cedar City Youth Council, to supply work and supervision for youths. The city will participate financially fi-nancially on a 50-50 basis with the state, according to Mayor Kumen Gardner, for labor performed. per-formed. The program is an extension of the summer program which has been worked successfully' for the past two years, according to Jay Casper, chairman of the youth council. The city will put the youths to work and supervise them, then pay 50 of the wages for the youths. A similar program has been worked during the summer iuuiltlis Willi buui KciiCies iul- Forest Service, Fish and Game Department and others, but the youth council has asked the city to cooperate in the program to continue the project on a year-l around basis. Mayor Gardner stated that the city has agreed only to participate partici-pate In the program on a trial basis through the remainder of the school year. Indicating that the program as previously administered ad-ministered during the summer months would be continued. J Should the program during this trial period prove to be a satisfactory satis-factory arrangement the council will consider the continuation of it again next fall. In other action of the council a low bid of $155.50. submitted by Parry Sand and Gravel for a sewer extension was accepted. The extension will be on North Main Street to facilitate the needs of the new Regional Fish ' and Game Dept. building now under construction. Dr. J. S. Prestwich was appointed ap-pointed as city physician, succeeding suc-ceeding Dr. L. V. Broadbent and the council also adopted the 19G2 building code. Considerable time was also spent In consultation with Browning Piatt, engineer, who brought the council up to date on the master plan for the municipal munici-pal airport. It was pointed out that application for funds for extension of the runway or a realignment re-alignment of the runway, has hon ma H to th Federal Aviation Avia-tion Agency. Piatt was authorized author-ized by the council to bring the application up to date and continue con-tinue a study to determine the feasibility of extension or realignment re-alignment to the best interest of the city. Councilman Roy P. Urie waa assigned from the council to work with the city manager to determine the lighting needs of Cedar City and the council also discussed the formation of a board of health, as required by city ordinance. Mayor Gardner Indicated that city did not have a board of health at the present time. No appointments were made at the council meeting, however. |
