Show Legion Baseball Tcm Collects . Opening Round Win Cedar City Junior American Legion Le-gion baseball team, 'which did not raise the total money needed for their participation in the state tournament, until Monday of this week, won their opening round contest at Logan Tuesday, by defeating Smithfleld 4 to 3. Steve Cahoon blasted out a double In the bottom half of the ninth and final frame to ddye in two runs to change a 3 to 2 defl-city defl-city to a 4 to 3 victory. The win advances the Cedar crew Into the quarter-final round of the state double elimination tournament Smithfleld Post 58. which rep-sents rep-sents the entire Cache Valley In the state tournament, scored all three of their runs in the, fourth f.nme to take a 3 to 1 lead. Cedar pushed over one tally tal-ly in the third, another in the. fifth and the tying and winning runs In the bottom of the ninth. Both squads collected eight hits and both were charged with two errors. I Kent Smith also doubled for Cedar for the only other extra base hit. Lory MLsel and Steve Cahoon shared mound duties and Jeff Marchant completed the battery performing catching chores. Other first round winners Included In-cluded South Bonneville, Holla-day, Holla-day, and West Hollady posted a ine-slded 21 to 2 win over Ft Duchesne. |
