Show - Forty Scouts find Scouters Return From Anniversary Nat'l. Jamboree Thirty-five scouts and five scouters from Ovsr City and Enoch returned July 30 from the Fiftieth Anniversary National Jamboree of the Boy Scouts of America held at Colorado Springs, Cole. They were a tired but happy hap-py lot 1 The delegation made up Troop 69 of Section 39 at the Jamboree were in agreement with a statement state-ment by Howard R. Foulger. Scoutmaster In attendance that the event "lepresented the ultimate ulti-mate In promoting world-wfde brotherhood and friendliness." Foulger served as Scoutmaster for the Cedar City Troop with John F. Jones and Wayne H. Jones serving as his assistant scoutmasters. Two other scout-erg scout-erg from Cedar City in attendance, atten-dance, Karl Lagerberg and Newel F. Wasden, were assigned scoutmasters scout-masters for Troop 71 from Vernal, Utah. Among the many highlights of the trip was the opportunity to see President Dwlght D. Eisenhower1 Eisen-hower1 the arena shows with over 500 actors and an audience of 56,000 people a gigantic fireworks fire-works display and the opportunity opportu-nity of "swapping" words, ideas, and Items with "the friendliest people in all the world." I The Cedar City Scouts left by private car to Provo where they Joined with other scouts from the Utah Parks Council to board a charted train to the Colorado I Jamboree. Enroute the boys tour-jed tour-jed Denver, Colo., where they vis-llted vis-llted the capitol building, city park and too and Ellchey's Amusement Park. I A registration of 65,000 scouts ard scouters from 50 states and approximately 40 foreign countries coun-tries were In attendance at the Jambore,e. In scouting competition the Ttchv orf Cedar City placed extremely high. In Section 39 v.'i.U. represented 35 troops the 1 Cedar City Troop placed first In Pioneering Events and finished second in the Personal Fitness competition. I Further described by Scouter Foulger the Jamboree "was the biggest and most colorful show on earth. The organization and 1 planning was outstanding with every activity and event being staged with clock-like precision you had to see it to believe it." Five Scouters in attendance have been named above. The list of scouts attending the Jamboree Included David J., Jay H., Keith, Michael N., Randy M., Vera H.. and R .Wayne Grlmshaw and C Brent Jones, David A. King, Clint L. Matheson, Keith L. Maxwell, Max-well, Knneth Richardson and Ted H. Wllcken all of Enoch. From Cedar City were Clifford Anker, Grent Bulloch, Mayo M. Bybee, Wayne J. Cooley, Jerry Carpenter, Dennis Dalley, Lark E. Flanigan, Tom L Gardner, Sheldon Shel-don E. Harris, James K. Heywood, Douglas Lundgren, Ray E. Lunt, Clark Magleby, Michael R. Major Ma-jor Neal S. Matheson, Barry L. Peters, Robert F. Smith, Clint P. Warby, Robert F, Wasden, Roger F. Williams, Roger G. Williams and John H. Froyd. Jamboree is many things to all of the Scouts and Scouters In attendance, but most of all It Is Democracy In action . . . many races and creeds living, working togetner." There were 39 sectional camps, each with Its own health lodge, water supply, shower baths and commissary. |
