Ceremonies Open New Cedar City High School Gym Residents of Iron County turned turn-ed out in goodly numbers Saturday Satur-day evening for the first basketball bas-ketball game to be played in the new Cedar High School gym. The game, which pitted the Cedar High Redmen against inter-county rival the Parowan Rams, was won by Cedar 50 to 37. The new gymnasium was the main attraction. Capable of seating seat-ing 30O0 it was far from full with the balcony of the east side the main floor runs north and south roped off and 'the middle section of the bleachers on the main floor left unfolded to provide an area for the High School band. Amasa Stones, member of the Iron County School Board, gave the Invocation at the special exercises ex-ercises and brief remarks were expressed by James Sandberg, president of the school board and my Shelddh Harris, student body president at the school. Both expressed a desire that above all good sportsmanship would be displayed in the new gymnasium. Harris suggested that "a new era of sportsmanship sportsman-ship be ushered in at the new facility." The ribbon cutting ceremony, which officially opened the building for use, was performed by Miss Sally Bird, senior cheerleader cheer-leader at the Cedar High School.
