Show Water Supply, Improvement Projects Gets Council's Attention at Meeting Parowan City's culinary water problem received much consideration consider-ation at the regular meeting of the City Council on Monday evening, eve-ning, according to members of that body, along with other routine rou-tine matters of city business. Lack of water pressure during hot summer weather for residents resi-dents on the east and southeast section of the city has caused complaints from these people and means of alleviating the problem were discussed by the council. Inadequate supply lines and storage capacity is known to be the main causes for the water shortage. The supply of water at head of the flow line is adequate but there are bottlenecks in the line reaching to the storage tank which keeps the full supply from coming to the tank. The storage tank reaches a low level during the late after- j noon hours and then has an over-J flow from around midnight until the next morning, with the waterl flowing down the old creek bef ! An auxiliary tank to hold this overflow and the potential supply, from the source to meet the ritvi needs during the hot weather, is being considered by the council. City supervisor Wood row Decker Deck-er was authorized to check with Ralph B. flatt. engineer from Cedar Ce-dar City, to determine if new and larger pipelines on the east side' of the city would also create better bet-ter water pressure there, as well! as to investigate the other things mentioned above. D. A. Stones, chairman of the Iron County Fair committee, met with the council to encourage action ac-tion on u project at the city race track which would give the track a quarter of a mile stralght-away up the home stretch. We understand under-stand that the county will participate parti-cipate in this project, and it was' Mr. Stones' Idea to get the pro- ject completed for use at this year's Iron County Fair on Sat urday and Monday, Sept. 1 and 3. The council also authorized supervisor Decker to begin work on this project as soon as possible. possi-ble. We understand that the contemplated con-templated street lighting project! for the north and south ends of Parowan's Main Street, with the .State Highway Commission cooperating, coop-erating, is being held up because of lack of curb and gutter or both ends of the street which is jto be placed by the city. Th.e state highway department will 'also surface the st.tet for its en-tire en-tire width as soon as the curb and gutter is in. The highway department will also oil surface Center Street jfrom Main Street to the edge ol the city on the Parowan Canyon (road If the city will place curb 'and gutter along both sides of (that street This project Is also being held up on this account As curb and gutter projects have to be done as special improvement im-provement projects with abutting property owners standing the cost, citizens owning property on the streets concerned will have to give an OK to the work. We understand that a move to do this will be made right away. !
