Show Women Voters Conduct Meeting to Consider Validity oi Issues Set by National Program The Cedar City League of Women Wo-men Voters held the regular unit meetings on Thursday, Mar. 4, in the courtroom of the city and county building. Unit I met at 10 a. m. and Unit II met at 2:30 p. m. Officers of the league conducted con-ducted the meetings. The subject sub-ject for consideration was the proposed national program for 1954-1956. The Cedar City league, with other local leagues thioughout the country, has had a vital part in shaping this proposed program. pro-gram. After study and discussion in the unit meeting-, last fall, suggestions were sent to the national na-tional board. After the second round of study and discussion this week, further suggestions may be made. The final decision on the national program for 1954- 1956 will be made by representa- i tives of local and state leagues r at the biennial convention of the League of Women Voters in Den- v ver, April 26 to 30. Issues Proposed The proposed national program consists of current governmental issue? chosen for concerted action and the platform. The issues proposed pro-posed for study and action are (1) support of U. S. trade policies poli-cies that will help solve national nation-al and international economic problems, and (2) development of understanding of the relationship relation-ship betwen individual liberty and the public interest. The platform consists of governmental gov-ernmental principles supported by the league as a whole and also positions on national issues to which the league has given sustained attention and on which it may continue to take action. Through this national program the League of Women Voters carries car-ries out its purpose of promoting active and Informed part'eipation of citizens in government. The purpose is further carried out through voters service, a year-round year-round activity which provides non-partisan factual information on political processes, on candidates candi-dates and on issues in the Interest Inter-est of responsible and responsive government. Visiting Members Three members of the committee commit-tee for state organization of the League of Women Voters will visit the Cedar City league on Thursday, Mar. 11. Mrs. Earl Crowder, Salt Lake Ciy, chairman chair-man of the state committee; Mrs. Roland Hansen, Prove, and Mrs. Allen Lipman, Salt Lake City, will be presented at a general meeting in the courtroom at 1:30 p. m. The discussion will center on matters pertaining to the national na-tional program for the next two years. Similar meetings are being held with the local leagues in . Ogden, Provo, Salt Lake City and Bountiful. They are important be-; be-; cause the members of the local , leagues have an important part to play in the planning of the . national program as well as in : the selection of items to be stu-' stu-' died in local government.
