Show Air University Command Takes Over Air Force R0TC Program Throughout the U. S. The Air University Command of the United States Air Force, on Aug. 1 formally took over operation op-eration of the Air Force ROTC program now booming along with 145,000 students in 188 colleges col-leges and universities over the country. Lt. Gen. Idwal H. Edwards, air university commanding general announced the program is being headed by Brigadier Gen. Math-ew Math-ew K. Deichelmann, former air university director of education. Administration of the program is being handled by a new national na-tional headquarters in Montgomery, Mont-gomery, Ala., where air university univer-sity is located. It has about 200 officers, airmen and civilian employees. em-ployees. A new curriculum expected to start in the school year 1953-54, is now being mapped for the ROTC program. It will emphasize empha-size generalized training toward officer development and may indicate in-dicate a trend toward deferring ii.Etruction until the new officers enter upon active duty. The Air Force said the transfer trans-fer brings under one command the complementary missions of both the air university and the Air Force ROTC. Both programs are mainly concerned con-cerned with military education and training of AF officers or potential officers. The air university uni-versity has professional educators educa-tors qualified to assist in curriculum cur-riculum development and supervision super-vision and has complete technical techni-cal and professional facilities available for ROTC use. A liaison division, comprised of 10 field teams-of three officers each, will make frequent visits to each college and university throughout the nation in order to maintain close liaison between be-tween the 188 institutions and headquarters, AF ROTC in Montgomery. Harris, associate asso-ciate professor of air science and tactics at Branch Agricultural college, here in Cedar City, in making this announcement today, to-day, indicated that there will be no immediate change in the AF ROTC unit at the college. Only official action taken to date has been the redeslgnation of the unit's title from AF ROTC Detachment De-tachment No. 15-A, Headquarters Fourth Air Force, to AF ROTC Detachment No. 860-A, Headquar-ters Headquar-ters Air Force ROTC (Air Uni-versity). |
