Show I Il f LITERARY i The Year Has Passed Away f JANUARY JANUARY 1ST 1897 There are still lingering thoughts softly flowing That on Times Time's passing stream memories bear There are clouds of the past eastward going Borne along through the frosty air There are mists like incense smoke falling That come with a nights night's sad repose There are cold north winds drearily calling Another year to a close There are bright scenes now past that are wringing From some sad or broken heart There are sudden thrills like sweet singing Of friends that are loth to depart There are trials come and gone like the blushes On the face of a maiden fair There are loved ones sleeping mid infinite hushes Away from all sorrow and c care re There are many hard trials in shadow lying That have made us more gentle and kind There are many sad homes the year saw when dying x As it cast lingering looks looks looks' behind There are wearied souls on the billows sailing Where th the moaning waves toss and sway There are hearts that are sad when the moonlight ht is paling For the old year has now passed away C.
