Show ATHLETICS r Foot Ball Game LAST Wednesday at the University University University sity Juniors played their second game with the High School team The wonderful wonderful wonderful won won- improvement in the High School Schoolboys Schoolboys 1 boys added to the fact that Mort Allen played half half back back for them made the ther r game too one sided one sided to be interesting to toa a University man r The High School kicked off and andi i down downed d the University runner 10 yards r from the center The University lost t the ball on downs and once in possession possession posses posses- sion sian of the High School repeated bucks carried it over the line i On the second kick off Ensign landed far into the High School territory and Peaks Peak's excellent ta tackle kle stopped the ther r f runner before he got well und under r way The High School lost the ball on a fumble but held the University down so w well ll that they soon regained possession possession possession posses posses- sion of f it on downs The end of the first half found the ball within twenty yards of the goal In the second half the High School by repeated bucks of Allen and Porter secured another touchdown touchdown touchdown touch touch- down but failed to kick goal In the latter part of the second half the University University Uni Uni- became desperate and began to play hard but it was too late The High School had worked their way to within two yards of the goal when they lost the ball on a fumble Ensign was sent through the center and emerging on the other side right side up started down the field and thinking himself clear overlooked Odell who downed him in good shape From this on our boys worked as they never did before but the referees referee's whistle sounded with the ball in the center of the field Score 10 to 0 O. H Allen Ensign Capt F. F B B. Odell NOTES One of ot the linesmen made more gains for the High School than any member of their team Van Cott became so disgusted with his rulings that he left the field To be sure Van Cott did wrong in not playing the game out but then the patience of a saint would have been exhausted exhausted and and Van is not a saint When enough ground had not been gained in the requisite number of downs the linesman fixed that all right that that is when the High School had the ball When the oval was in possession possession possession posses posses- sion of the University however it was different then two downs were enough The linesman is an member ex-member mem ex-mem ber of the High School team That may have something to do with it The High School boys had considerable considerable consider consider- able advantage in weight which helped win the game but there is no disputing the fact that they outplayed and outgeneraled outgeneraled outgeneraled out out- our team Allen of course is the s star tar of the H. H S. S team but keep your eye on Porter He hits the line like a veteran Did you see the swarms of High School maidens carrying black and red flags But where 0 O where were the theUn Un University ty girls Stringfellow did yeoman service for forthe forthe forthe the University He seemed to be in every play and some of the tackles he made Well they should have been seen to be appreciated Let me me- beg implore the A. A A. A 1 to to put a rope rope- railing or something of that nature nature on on the north side A company of cavalry could not keep the 4 crowd back under existing conditions Some of the players made themselves general n nuisances by yelling foul tackle ever every time a man went down We vVe will wager ten to one that these shouters dont don't know the difference between between between be be- tween a foul tackle and a man carving a chicken Harry Kimball had a head-end head collision collision collision colli colli- sion with some one and was so dazed for a moment that it was feared someThing something some- some thing serious was the matter During this daze Brown was called to the right end and when Harry recovered and was told he could not finish the game gamewell gamewell gamewell game game- well it took three men to hold him Crismon isn't very big which may be bethe bethe the reason that every time the human mass gets up and uncovers the ball Crimson is always next to it Sometimes Sometimes Sometimes Some Some- times its it's the little things that tell r all of which means that our junior quarter pack is all right It Now let the first team show what it itcan itcan can do on Thanksgiving Day The Herald says that Van Cott was hurt and had to be carried from the thep p field They should know Van better than that No he walked off in in disgust s. s at Murphys Murphy's rulings 1 Captain Ensign should have insisted 1 on having Murphy replaced by another man Not that the result would have have been materially different ll but t then its it's uphill work when an official is playing the game for the other side A man who becomes so rattled that he cannot remember whether the ball baIl has gone down one two or three times has no business on the gridiron under any circumstances least of all as an n official It is an edifying spectacle to see a linesman appeal to the bystanders and to the umpire to find out what down it is The H. H S. S boys played a clean gentlemanly gentlemanly gentlemanly gentle gentle- manly game for which much credit is due Captain Hudson as square a player as ever wore a canvas jacket The game with the Y M. M C. C A. A o on on Thanksgiving day is an assured thing and from now on practice will be be constan constant constant con con- stant stan t and thorough This will be th the first and the only big game this season that Salt Lake will have an opportunity of seeing and as lS these two teams have never played against each other before considerable interest is already being manifested All University University University sity students are expected to be present at this game The Association needs your admission fee and the team can play better if their friends re ure on hand 1 to encourage them 1 |
