Show I Cedar Gun Club to Present Safety Course The Red Hill Rifle and Pistol Club of Cedar City will sponsor a Hunter Safety Course under the direction of the National Rifle Association of America on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, Thursday, Friday and Satuiday, Oct. 7, 8, 9 and 10, it was announced by President Ted Cox today. AfJIIiated with the NRA the lo-cal lo-cal organization is undertaking this course in an effort to eliminate elimin-ate hunting accidents in the field. The course will be conducted conduct-ed at the College of Southern Utah rifle range just west of the fieldhouse in the stock sheds. Tiif course, free of charge, will be open to all Interested persons and can be completed within a Indnimum of four hours one hour nightly for the four days. Instruction will be furnished by the Red Hill Rifle club as directed direct-ed by the national association. Officers of the group suggest that all hunters participate but encourage en-courage those hunters who have purchased a license to use the ccur&e for their own protection. At the completion of the course a hunters' safety card will be issued, is-sued, Mr. Cox stated. He pointed out also that for the first night, Wednesday, hunters will not bring their rifles, and they will be notified at the course when! they will be needed. I Assisting president Cox in the Hunter Safety Course undertaking undertak-ing will be other officers of the club which includes Elton Stap-ley, Stap-ley, vice president; Reed Cox, secretary and treasurer; Floyd Atkin, instructor, and Alex Robinson, Rob-inson, range officer. The NRA Hunter "Safety Course is designed to encourage safe gun handling- and to reduce hunting accidents. It presents information in-formation concerning the operation opera-tion of guns, safe gun handling, good shooting, and the hunter's responsibility, which are all essential es-sential to safe hunting, Mr. Cox pointed out. There will be no attempt at-tempt to teach expert marksmanship; marksman-ship; the course will simply give the basic facts which should enable en-able the hunter to avoid hunting accidents. |
