Show LETTERS j j TO THE EDITOR j Grand Coulee, Wash. June 3, 1952 Editor: Iron County Record, Dear Sir: Enclosed find check to cover 1952 subscription. We take great pleasure in reading the Record although many names are new to us. We pioneer type of people enjoy progress and watch with enthusiasm the progress pro-gress in Iron County, Utah, as your father would remember possibly pos-sibly many years ago of the early ear-ly settlers of the BeryJ district. My father and mother settled there in 1920. Father died there on the homestead in 1940 and mother passed away here recently recent-ly at the age of 92. I take special note of your article ar-ticle on Reclamation in the May 29 issue "Stamp Emphasizes Importance Im-portance of Irrigation in West." It is not likely that you thought this article would be read by one familiarly associated with both Iron county and Grand Cou-lee Cou-lee Dam I.e. I have been employed em-ployed here by the Bureaif of Reclamation since 1939 and Mrs. Endicott for several years as clerk here in the Grand Coulee post office and is in position to tell anyone who may be interested, inter-ested, of the special arrangements arrange-ments necessary in distributing Commemorative Stamps of first day coverage. Our little post office here could not handle the business alone, dignitaries from Washington, D. C. were numerous. numer-ous. It is practically impossible to visualize the capacity of one of the pumps here that pump water from the Lake Roosevelt above the dam up 280 feet into the 30-mile-long equalizing reservoir. Each pump requires a 65,000 H. P. motor. In other words, one Grand Coulee generator operates two pumps. I have helped install in-stall all but three of the 18 generators gen-erators here and two of the four pumps that are now installed. Honing this will be of interest to you, Yours very truly, James I.
