Show Forest Supervisor Addresses Lions Club Members Resources of the Dixie National forest with regards to range sheds timber, recreation and wildlife management, were discussed dis-cussed at the meeting of the Cedar Ce-dar City Lions club Monda Forest Supervisor Albert Albert-son, Albert-son, addressed the club at its regular meeting. The speaker pointed out that 9,000,000 board feet of timber is harvested from the Dixie annually, annual-ly, and that this harvest can be sustained. The timber cut includes in-cludes stands used for lumber, excelsior and other minor items. Speaking of the Importance of the forest as a watershed, Mr. Albertson pointed out that about 87 per cent of Utah's water comes from 18 per cent of the land above 7000 feet elevation. He maintained that land in the high elevations is more valuable as watersheds than for any other purpose. He stated that approximately 17,000 acres of land on the Dixie forest has been reseeded, and other improvements include 773 miles of fence, 550 miles of roads! 410 range water developments, 14 improved recreation areas and 47 saw mills not on forest property prop-erty but using timber cut from the forest. |
