Show Cedar Redmen Shov Well in Taking Fourth Place in State Hoop Tourney The Cedar City high school basketball team wound up in fourth place in the annual B school basketball tournament in Salt Lake City last week, making a very commendable showing in losing only one game in the four-day joust. Only the teams from Monroe, Bingham and American Fork high schools finished fin-ished higher than Coach Alma Garrett's Redmen. Two of these, Bingham and American Fork each lost one game, the same as the Cedar squad, but lost later lat-er in the meet entitling them to higher positions. After tipping the Roosevelt high school team on the opening open-ing night and then falling to a powerful American Fork squad in the second round, the Redmen met and defeated Payson and Moab high schools on Friday and Saturday. Friday the Redmen met a smooth aggregation from Payson, and won by a score of 41 to 36, in a game that they completely dominated until a final rally by the losers closed the gap. After a nip and tuck first quarter in which the score was tied twice and the lead changed hands four times, the Redmen pulled into a lead that they never relinquished. relin-quished. The Redmen held a 9 to 5 advantage ad-vantage as the second quarter opened, and climbed into a 23 to 13 half time lead. Midway in the third period the Cedar team held a 25-14 lead and then a 26-16 lead, before Payson started to gain slightly. At the end of the period Cedar held a 33 to 28 margin, and in the final period the Redmen continued to hold a similar margin as the time ran out with the local squad controlling con-trolling the ball. Moab players Saturday night the Redmen took the lead in the first minutes of play and gradu-ually gradu-ually increased it to a ten point margin and then held on for a 29 to 35 victory. Moab tied the score as the second quarter opened and then Cedar began to pull away, and held a margin of five points 18 to 13, as the teams left the floor for the rest period. In the third period Cedar scored scor-ed 12 points to seven for Moab to take a lead of 30 to 20. During the final period Moab climbed close to the leading Redmen but the Cedar team continued to control the ball and were not seriously threatened.
