Show L THE SOCIETIES Jl t I WE were sorry to hear of the disbandment disband- disband ment of the John R. R Park Society What was the matter If the answer that there was an insufficient number of members or a lack of interest among the boys bo's we would attribute the falling through to the want of a little push and pulL pull Discouragement should never be al allowed allowed allowed al- al lowed to block the way when a person starts out in the right path Patience must be exercised and perseverance employed It was by dint of work and that the N Normal ormal Delta Phi and Zeta Gamma obtained their solid foundations and now they have such a bright present that fame is seen in the not far distant future Itis It Itis Itis is our candid belief that if the John R. R Park Society is taken hold of by a few enthusiastic and energetic students there will be no want of a sufficient number of members for the name puts ambition into the hearts of all University students students students stu stu- dents and enriches them with a feeling of and love for this institution From this a desire will spring up to give a strong support to an organization having for its designating title the name of such a respected and arid esteemed man as Dr John R. R Park THE Zeta Gamma held a rousing meeting last Thursday evening The debate Resolved that the pardoning of the Chicago anarchists was justifiable was ably ably argued by Ford and Mitchell for the affirmative Dunyon and Erlands taking the negative The he judges rendered an affirmative dei de de- i CISlOn I Mr McGhie read an excellent paper on II Class Distinction explaining f clearly the meaning of the subject He showed the gulf that exists between the f rich and the poor the educated and the ignorant The condition of society in inthe inthe inthe the United States States was cl clearly arly set set forth and also the ideal relation which the 4 capitalist capitali t and laborer must attain in the future development of man 4 A tw two hours hours' jangle w was s then indulged if in ending with the adjournment at 11 p. p pm p.m. M. M E 4 ATHE A THE Delta Phi was immediately adjourned last Monday evening after the calling of the roll and reading of minutes Politics was on the docket r IT is often amusing to see how some people take up and debate important important- I political questions When a subject is assigned to be argued by four mem members bers of any society an interest should be betaken taken in it and a little good solid study brought into play t Too often do we hear of a person taking the floor and politely informing the members of the society that he is f not very well prepared but will say something and then for about two minutes he goes on in a harangue which is IS not a logical argument but a waste of time and words Discussions taken up by the different persons upon subjects like the following namely the Silver i the Labor or the Emigration question require extensive research and study F and it is simply lost time to try and argue on any of these subjects when there has been but little preparation and investigation True it is that one may maylack maylack maylack lack the skill of effective expression but if a person will become well informed on the subject given him words will be beat beat beat at his command and the power to ex ex- S press his thoughts will to a great extent come corne to him When one has studied up the question for debate as well as he knows how and rising though it may be with a timid feeling and renders his points as asfar asfar asfar far as his ability will permit praise and commendation are due to him The CHRONICLE does not assume apIa a pIa platform of criticism or censure 1 We e simply say first get a good understanding understand understand- ing as to the meaning of the question obtain your references and also talk with someone who may be conversant on the subject The University professors sors are ever ready to render any aid to the students and it is to them that they may apply for help which will be given wi with th pleasure THE or organization of a German literary society by some of the girls of the U University University Uni Uni- ni- ni calls to mind a familiar quotation quotation quotation quota quota- tion of Pope Heaven forming each on other to depend A master or a servant or a friend Bids each on other for assistance call Till mans man's weakness grows the strength of all We admire their enterprise for if carried out in the right way a fairly good of the German language will be the result The CHRONICLE wishes them success The Normal held its regular meeting last Friday A recitation by Miss Lena White and a song by Harold comprised the program At the second miscellaneous business took an active part and alter after a hard struggle had his motion passed which motion was that a committee be appointed appointed appointed ap ap- pointed to revise and write re-write the constitution constitution constitution con con- and by Not much enthusiasm was displayed and the members breathed a sigh of relief when the adjournment came carne THE TilE Edina will hold its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon at 3 p. p pm p.m. m. m The following program will be rendered 1st Continued reading of Evangeline Miss Mitchell 2nd Song Miss May Price and Ida Bates 3rd How to teach reading to young children Miss Instrumental selection Miss Van PROF WHITING G will lecture before the Normal Society next Friday afternoon A song by Miss and a piano selection by Mr Dunyon will be rendered Si |
