Show Safety Council Head Warns Motorists Of Winter Hazards Let the temperature drop, but don't drop plans to have your car and winter safety equipment put in the best condition for bad weather days ahead, warned C. T. Bailey, executive director of the Utah Safety Council today. "Snow, ice and hazardous traf-fic traf-fic conditions are just around the corner, and so is serious trouble for those motorists who will be caught off guard," the official of-ficial reminded Utah car owners. Experienced car and truck operators, op-erators, he declared, won't fool themselves into any wishful thinking that this coming winter's win-ter's battle against the elements will be any less hazardous than in past seasons. Last winter was severe In some sections, and according ac-cording to the law of averages, the coming months will probab-ly probab-ly bring deep snow. Equipment failures can be ex ceedingly troublesome In bad weather, and worse yet, can contribute to accidents and traffic traf-fic tie-ups, it was emphasized. Research by the National Safety Council shows that the auto death rate Increases 24 to 53 per cent during winter months in snowbelt states. Skidding on snow and ice and reduced vis-ability vis-ability are the primary winter hazards, studies have disclosed. |
