Show Four Sea Scouts Pass Merit Tests Four members of the Cedar City Sea Scout Troop passed merit badge tests for life saving and 6wlmmlng Saturday, April 3 at the St. George swimming pool, Bill Webber, Skipper Skip-per announces. The four boys completing com-pleting the tests were Oordon Beth-ers, Beth-ers, Oreste Lombardl, Sheldon Prest-wlch Prest-wlch and Albert Lundell. Mr. Webber Web-ber states that completion of these tests is a special requirement for each member to become eligible for a major outing to Grand Canyon this summer. The boys were required to accomplish ac-complish a number of water activities acti-vities to qualify for merit badges, including swimming 50 yards with each of three strokes, free hand, back stroke and side arm. They were also required to retrieve an object ob-ject from six feet of water; Jump in pool 6 feet deep and take off pants, tie knots In the leg of trousers, trous-ers, fill with air and use as buoy; swim SO yards half under water and half on top, alternating three strokes under and three strokes on the surface of the water; Jump In water with shirt or stick In hand, swim twenty yards to drowning person, fasten shirt to person and tow or push the victim back to shore. The tests were supervised by Reed Bradshaw and D. C. 8chmutz, members mem-bers of the Sea Scout Troop committee. |
