Show Recreation Features Committee Reports of Coordinating Council Wednesday Night. Community recreation held the ipotllght of the discussion at the Coordinating Council meeting on Wednesday night. Lee Llston, chair-nan chair-nan of the Recreation Council introduced in-troduced various members of his jommittees who gave brief reports of their work. Mr. Llston summarized summar-ized the activities at the swimming pool and baseball grounds during the summer months and called up. on Mrs. Loreta Riddle to describe the Children's Story Hour which she had supervised for the Council at the Children's Library. Much commendation has been given this project which has been a very popular pop-ular one with parents and children. Norman Heaton reported on the Jr. Chamber recreation projects, stating that weekly dances will be held in the Armory which will be better heated this winter than pre. lously. He explained that the most difficult problem was that of locating lo-cating an lccskatlng pond closer to town than the present one, so that It can better serve all the children of the community. A motion wu carried to have the Jr. Chamber committee meet with city officials and select a suitable place for this vlntcr's skating. Morris Roberts gave a summary f the project which was begun to establish a Teen-Age center and stated that Its failure was entirely 'uc to lack of proper housing. Dr. P. K. Ing Board of the Senior Chamber jf Commerce gave a btlcf outline if plans for the proposed new park which will be constructed east of lie city. A general discussion of community recreation was held. Following this Mr. Rcld Oardnrr, Pres. of the 8o. Utah Power Co., brought to the tentlon of the group, the plan ot his company to remove all light poles on north and south s'reets over a period of 5 years and stated that home owners should be looking toward the possibility of establish. Discussion followed as to the feasibility of alleys, some citizens favoring them on grounds that it would solve many landscape problems If such alleys could be made available for spring plowing time when In many instances a team aria! plow must be brought across the front lawn or else a wide driveway made for the purpose. Garbage disposal could also be made from the back entrance Instead of the front. Others disagreed on the grounds that an alley would mean only another weed -catcher. The matter was referred to the Town Beautlflcatlon and Planning Com. mittee. Mrs. Mattle W. Reusch. Child Welfare Director for Iron and Washington Wash-ington counties, appeared briefly before the group and explained purposes of such welfare work in the county. In the absence of chairman L. N. Marsden the meeting was pre. sided over by Supt. I. N, Wright, vice-chairman. |
