Show Farm Security , Families Urged To Conserve A .sprrlul apical Ls beins made vfir by the Farm Security Ai'minUlratlon to all Its borrowers to or ive all foodstuffs and to '.e' noth'ng waste. The Farm Security is interested primarily in all borrower families being well fed and this can be accomplished ac-complished btst by the w'se use of home prodn:ed foods, says Newel P. Wasden, County RR Supervisor for the Farm Security Administration. Administra-tion. Right now Ls the time to take care of every ounce of foodstuffs the farm has produced. Not one ounce of food should be allowed to go to wastea on an American farm in 1M2. Oardens of Iron County have done exceptionally well this year and every farm family should be well fed this winter. For the sake of the family's health and for th? sake of democracy's cause, every family should plan now to provide their family with sufficient supplies sup-plies so that there may be two vegetables veg-etables .besides potatoes, served dally throughout the year; an egg a day for every member of the family; fam-ily; meat, fish or cheese every day, a quart of milk for every member of the family every day; and whole grain bread or cereul every day. It ls the farm funi'ly's first responsibility re-sponsibility to lay away a supplv of health-glvUig foods in sufficient amounts to take care of the family needs, but this year Uve responsibility responsibil-ity does not 6top there. It is the patriotic duty of every American family to produce and conserve as much foodstuff as possible. It ls better now to conserve a pound of potatoes already produced than to let one pound waste now and have to wait until next year to replace it. With our own armed forces to be fed besides the other allied nations every pound of potatoes, every pound of meat, as well as every pound of any other food on the American farm ls Important. The Farm Security Administration Administra-tion Is anxious to give any assistance assis-tance needed to help all low-Income farmers in their work of conservation. con-servation. The Farm Security can make loans for the building of storage stor-age houses If funds are needed, or if it ls advice on the best methods of storage, best methods of drying of foods, or the best methods of bottling foods, the Farm Security will also be glad to give their assistance. assis-tance. If there is food in the garden whl.h the fam'ly cannot use, sell it, bottle it, dry it, or give it to a neighbor who can use It so there will be no waste. Orow out all livestock live-stock to the largest economical weight possible and waste no feed In doing it, asks Mr. Wasden. Be careful with stacking hay or grain. Feed livestock well but arrange feeding yards In such a way that livestock will eat all the feed and not waste any by trampling on It. Check now on storage and make certain that root cellars are good and will keep every potato or carrot car-rot without letting any of them spoil. If labor Is Inadequate to harvest crops, contact the County War Board by writing to the Farm Security Se-curity Office, the County Agent, or get In touch with the Employment Employ-ment Service. With high prices for farm produce pro-duce and a likely sale for any and all foods which can be produced, most Iron County Farm Security borrowers should have a better living this winter and be able to pay off more debts than has been possible for several years. The Farm Security continues, however, to be of assistance in every way possible to all low-Income farm-era farm-era and is especially urging all borrowers to put forth every effort possible to do their part in the war effort. |
