It was pointed out at the Institute Insti-tute that approximately 400,000 of the first million men examined by the Selective Service were found un-nt un-nt for military duty, and that about one-third of these are suffering from taxabilities directly or indirectly auc to poor nutrition. A widespread disease epidemic would receive at-lenttion at-lenttion immediately, an! while malnourishment Is more insidious and less immediately obvious in Us effects, but not less harmful when all the results are considered, very little has been done about it in the past. However, ic is now planned by the local council to carry the message mes-sage of the necessity of the proper pro-per diets to the laymen by means of the schools, motion pictures, the radio, the press, home and community commun-ity demonstrations and all other a-vailable a-vailable means. To accomplish this a long time program will be formulated, formu-lated, but emphasis will be placed on the problems that might be overcome ov-ercome immediately, In order that the health of the people might be brought up to standards needed to face the problems of the total war effort. The Importance of this work is emphasized in a telegram from Congressman Walter K. Granger to Mrs. Lunt commeding her un-on un-on the program. It read: " I commend com-mend you for your patriotic undertaking. under-taking. Probably nothing will do more now to win the war and to guarantee the health and stability of future generations than the understanding un-derstanding and practice of proper pro-per nutrition. Perhaps flags and bugles will not salute you and your a.5ociates, but nevertheless, It is tremendously Important." |
