Show Board of Education Holds June Meeting Much of the time at the meeting of the Iron County School Board Monday was devoted to the approval ap-proval of bills against the district, but considerable time was alsi spent in discussing and acting upon up-on other business matters. The purchasing of coal for the heating plants was discussed at some length, after which the Superintendent Su-perintendent was authorized to investigate in-vestigate the cost of coal at the mines, in an effort to help solve the bus driver problem. It Is felt that if coal could be purchased at the mines, the bus drivers could be employed to haul the coal, using two school owned trucks. It has been difficult to keep drivers because be-cause of the fact that only small salaries can be paid because the work is limited. But if the driven could spend their time during school hours at some such task as hauling coal, a wage could be paid that would hold drivers on the Job. The Board also approved the employment of a Coordinator for Adult Education work during the school months. The coordinator, who has not yet been selected, will work with the Coordinating Council, Coun-cil, which was organized under the supervision of the State Department Depart-ment of Education. The local district dis-trict will assist In the employment of the coordinator on a matching basis with the State Department. A decision was reached to build a supply room in the administration administra-tion building In Cedar City, utilizing utiliz-ing the space in the West end of the hall leading to the auditorium. Work has already been started on the supply room. The Board members also discussed dis-cussed at some length the plan for maintenance of the typewriter used in the Cedar and Parowan high schools. Since new machines cannot be purchased, a contract had been entered into with the Royal Typewriter Company to re-! re-! pair and maintain all Royal and I Remington typewriters in the schools. It was decided to contract witli the Underwood Typewriter company to repair the Underwood machines In the schools, providing this company would meet the contract con-tract price offered by the Royal company. |
