Show Beautification Plans Discussed At Council Meet An over-all picture of the future beautification plans for Cedar City was the chief topic for discussion at. the Cocixi mating Council held Thursday, Nov. 21. Mr. J. C. Haws, chairman of the City Beautification Beautifica-tion Committee gave a summary of the State Beautification Conference Confer-ence held in Salt Lake City on Nov. 16 at which Iron County was represented rep-resented by 11 members -of the various var-ious beautification committees. He stated that the conference was part of the planning for Utah's centennial centen-nial and was to continue on a longtime long-time basis throughout the state. He called upon various committee members to report the divisional meetings which they had attended at the state conference. Mr. Theron Ashcroft reported from the Landscape Land-scape division, Mrs. Ann J. Gardner Gard-ner reported City Planning and Zoning, Mr. George A. Wood, Paint-, Up, Fix-up. Two nationally known experts on city planning were present pre-sent at the Utah conference, Mr. Carl Felss of Denver, and Mr. L. Demlng Tilton of San Francisco. These men offered much valuable help to communities represented and stressed that In addition to beautification beaut-ification neds, the problems of safety must be considered paramount para-mount in city planning. Mrs. Wilson Lunt, County Chairman for Centennial Cen-tennial Beautification, described the conference as one of the best planned plan-ned and most stimulating held in connection with centennial activities. activ-ities. Other members of Mr. Haws' committee who participated in the Salt Lake conference were Miss Mary L. Bastow.and W. Arthur Jones. The ''"CoortrThatlng County had invited the Cedar City Planning Commission to attend this meeting and D. C. Dix, chairman of the Commission was asked to display maps prepared by George H. Smeath one of Utah's expert City Planners, showing the proposed development for a Civic Center in Cedar City, which will include a site for the new public library and other public pub-lic buildings. Much discussion followed fol-lowed concerning Cedar City building build-ing and highway and street plans for the future. |
