Show Drive for Aluminum To Start in Cedar City Monday Morning All citizens of Cedar City will be asked to contribute old aluminum-ware aluminum-ware to national defense beginning Monday, July 21. By means of a house to house canvass aluminum-ware aluminum-ware will be collected by the Boy Scouts and stored in a large bin erected near the post office by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A "cleanup" campaign will be held on July 23 at 10 a. m. In a joint statement to the American Ameri-can people, William S. Knudtn, office of nroduction management. F. H. LaOuardla, director of civilian defense, have stated: "The nation Is appealing to all Its citizens for their active assistance for the first time since President Roosevelt's declaration of a full national emergency emer-gency May 27, 1941. "The nation needs aluminum for planes and other vital items in Its defense program more rapidly than existing facilities can produce it. Additional facilities are being constructed con-structed as quickly as possible. In the meantime, the people of the nation can help by donating all used alumlnumware that can be spared from their households without with-out being replaced. No individual group or corporation will make any profit out of this transaction. The entire proceeds of the sale will be used for civilian defense." All residents of the city are urged urg-ed to back the campaign wholeheartedly whole-heartedly in order that Cedar City may cooperate to the fullest possible possi-ble extent in national defense. It Is also suggested that local garages gar-ages set aside used aluminum pistons, pis-tons, cylinder heads and other such items for collection by the Boy Scouts between July 21 and 23. All types of aluminum alloys should be set aside for collection by the scouts. The campaign will also be carried to residents in the outlying portions por-tions of Iron county who are asked to participate in the collection of alumlnumware by notifying Warren Bulloch of Cedar City, who is county coun-ty chairman. The collection for Cedar City Is being sponsored by the Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Boy Scouts and other civic and church organizations. The Lions committee, commit-tee, which will head the local drive, Includes H. Emmett Ingersoll, chairman; chair-man; J. Furl Porter, L. D. Love, Ouy C. Tucker, A. L. Hovey and Wallace Macfarlane.
