Show TAYLOR HAS BATTLE WITH BANDIT CROWD Reaches El Paso; Bravery of Wife and Outlaw's Generosity Saves His Life., (Special to Tho Tribune.) El Paso, Texas, March 20. Saved by the Mexican whom ho had wounded, wound-ed, E. L. Taylor arrived hero from Colonia Juarez, in tho Mexican Mormon Mor-mon colonies, after an experience which has turned his hair gray and pttt deep lines of care in his face. Taylor owes his life to tho bravery of his wife and to tho clemency of a wounded Mexican who had been Bhot by Taylor while defending his homo against tho attack of a party of Cas-tello Cas-tello bandits under the personal command com-mand of the new leader, Manuel Gui-tcrrez. Gui-tcrrez. Taylor was wanted by the Castcllo bandits on the chargo of being unfriendly un-friendly to them' and giving information informa-tion to tho rebels when a number of the bandits had been executed. Gui-terrez Gui-terrez and his band of ton rode to the Taylor home in Colonia Juarez and entered tho house. Taylor's two daughters fled out tho back door to tho neighboring houses to give the alarm, while their father and mother sought refuge in the parlor, par-lor, where the organ belonging to "the Mormon church at Colonia Juarez had been placed to prevent its being carried car-ried away from tho church. Taylor crouched behind the organ and his wife kept her body between the bandits with drawn rifles and her husband. Once she was not quick enough for the bandits, and three shots were fired at her husband over he'r shoulders. They missed Taylor but splintered the organ. Then Gui-terrez Gui-terrez succeeded in covering Taylor with his revolver, after tho Mormon had shot one of his men through the hand. Guitcrrcz was about to fire a bullet bul-let into the -American's brain, when Mrs. Taylor jerked his hand down. It was then announced that tho execution ex-ecution would take placo in twenty minutes. Witnesses were summoned arid everything made ready. Then Guiterrez decjded tp leave Taylor's fato to the wounded bandit. Tho man requested that Taylor be spared for his wife and daughtors. It was then decided that he must pay a ransom of $500 and for the care of the wounded man. This was done and he was ordered to leave the country. Mr. Taylor is ono of tho leading memboira of tho Mormon colonies in Mexico and has a son living hero and one in Chauhau, and relatives in Salt Lake City. |
