Show SOUTHERN UTAH SCENERY. H rip HE Bupurlutivo hunuty of south- H orn scenery, and particularly Hint Hj portion ombmcuil in the Mtikiintuwenj) H Nntional Monument, or the Little Zion H Canyon, as it is more familiarly H known, added new exponents this H week when it was visited and viewed j by Dr. G. W. Aliddleton of Salt Lake MMk City and a party of local sight-seers. H On his return from the monument Dr. mmj Middleton was enthusiastic in his H laudation of the beauties and wonders H of this favored spot, which he said was H far superior in his estimation to the MU Royal Gorjje of the Grand Canyon or H anything to be seen in the Ycllow- H iitone park, both of which he has viii- H itcd. Of the stately grandeur of the H clilFs and mountains he knew somu- H thing by reputation; but the real H beauty of the canyon to him was the H level, sandy bottom of the dcrsebca H rich colorings, the beautiful natural H bowers of trailing vines, the splendid MM rnl.irnl shower bath, the level, sandy H bottom of the canyon, suited to sum- H mcr camping parties, and the funtun- H tic caivings and modellings of the MM giant rocks. H "I am going to get right after Sen- H ator Smoot when I get buck," quoth H the doctor enthusiastically. "Ho is Mm the chap that can get us a commen- H suratu appropriation to open up this H wonder land to the world. They have B a little appropriation of $15,000, but M it is not enough. They need $50,000." H A day or two subsequent Senator H Sutherland was in Cedar City, and H the need of an additional uppropria- H tion was mentioned to him. He re- H plied: "Yes, we'll get that, too. There H is nothing else to it. We must have H that attraction so that people cun get to H Tliis splendid scenic attraction is H only about 20 miles from the State B highway, which is also a part of the H Arrowhead's trail to Southern Califor- H nia, on which work is progressing at H the present time. H Another delightful side trip when it H is suflicicntly improved will be a run H into the Cedar Canyon, at least as far H as the large natural bridge, which wna MM discovered only a few weeks since. H There is no country on earth that H offers greater scenic attractions to B tho tourist than the southern corner H of Utah and the northern border of H Arizona, and some day these arc go- H ing to be rated among our important Hj resources. |
