Show H THE COUNTY TICKETS. POSSIBLY more interest is token by local people in the formulation H of the county tickets of the respective H parties than in anything else of a po- H litical naturo we have to do with, not MM excepting the national issues. In the H candidacy for county offices, the rival- H ry is always more or less keen, and MM the rank and file of the people find H themselves taking sides with the re- H spective candidates and developing an mj unxicty almost us keen as the candi- MM dates themselves display. Of perhaps H paramount importance is the position H of county representative in the State H Legislature, and speculation is rife as H to on whom the choice of the Rcpubli- H can county convention will fall. Since H this matter was last discussed, scver- H al new candidates 'arc being talked of, H among them Mr. T. W. Jones of Ncw- H castle, Mr. L, A. Thorlcy of Modcna, H and we havo also heard the name of H J. G. Pace of this city. Owing to tho H very precarious condition of his wife's H health, it is said that Mr. R. A. Thor- H ley will not enter the race at this time. H The Democrats havo put forth a MM very strong candidate in the person of H Prof. George W. Decker, a man of H ability and courage, and a man well H known and highly respected through- H out the county. It is imperative that Hj the Republicans nominate their best MM man for the position if they hope to WW I como off victorious at the polls. H The Record has already stated its wMf confidence in Mr. J. S. Woodbury as mW a candidate for this position. He is a 91' man of uncompromising character and KR1 integrity, intelligent, courageous and ( unflinching in the performance of duty us he sees it. He is progressive in his ideas, and will favor only such jvig legislation as he believes to be in tile H3S interest of the greatest number. SfKfil Ho is frugal and economical, and zJM will not willingly be a party to tho 3tt prnctico of the past few years of Iny- K ing In the governor's lap at tho close Egf of the legislative session an appro- ffijjf priation bill carrying nearly twice us 'JJBtf much as the estimated revenue of the Iraf state. Jlf the, Republicans nominute Mr, Hf i Woodbury tho voters of the county mwmitr I mi ,mmhm can rest fully assured that, regardless regard-less of tho rcauK of the election, their interests in the state legislature will be in tho kcepiii of a representative who wi" 1" '-"corruptible, and will be working every minute in the Legin-lature Legin-lature in the interests of such measures meas-ures as the people most desire and require. Both Mr. Decker and Mr. Woodbury are henrt and soul in favor of prohibition, as well as other progressive pro-gressive legislation. And nothing snid herein is intended to reflect upon the candidacy of any other person, whether declared or not. Some of the men mentioned in a preceding pre-ceding paragraph are men of honor, integrity and progressive views; but we know more specifically of the ideas of the two referred to in our preceding preced-ing paragraph, and know that the voters vot-ers will make no mistake in placing their confidence in either of them. |
