Although the sheep and wool market has been almost as good this season as in former years, and within the last ten days cattle has been sold in this county to the amount of upwards of $20,000, to sav nothing of the sales that have taken place from time to time throughout tho summer, there is evident a shortage of money, judging from the complaints by business men as to collections. The reason is difficult to understand. The work of grading the state highway between this city and Lund is progressing rapidly. Last Monday Road Supervisor H. M. Hendrickson began work in the valley west of this place with a force of men and teams, and? already has sjx miles of road graded, ready for finishing and rolling. County Surveyor M. II. Dalley has made surveys by which the road is placed on direct lines, eliminating many of the curvesjn the old road and shortening the distance considerably. con-siderably. G. C. Goddard is able to be upon the streets again, having been confined to his room for a month past as a result of having run a nail through his foot when alighting from a rapidly moving automobile in Salt Lake some weeks since. The nail penetrated penetrat-ed the bottom of the foot passing pass-ing entirely through the foot and protruding above the top of the shoe. It was a serios injury and the results are plainly to be seen in the loss of flesh suffered by Mr. Goddard during his confinement. con-finement. Uncle John Urie of Hamilton's Fort was in town Tuesday for the purpose of settling his tax account with deputy collector S. J. Foster. He, says he does not understand what, disposition the county and statex proposes to make of the large tax collections, collec-tions, in view of the large increase in-crease over previous years. There are a great many more who are beginning to think that our legislators are altogether too liberal in the making of appro priations, and that it is about time something should be done to save the people from the tax burden, especially the enormous state tax. C. D. In cases of improper treatment or neglect of either, it will be his duty to see that the laws are complied with.or institute prosecutions prose-cutions to see that the same are obeyed. It is his intention to make an inspection of the stables and corrals in Cedar City and vicinity as soon as the winter season is on, and compel owners to keep the same in a clean and comfortable condition. |
