Show I . ME AND MY MERGENTHALER. I Oh a couple of pals we are, I guess, It's a sort of a blend machine and friend Me and this good machine, It's a partner in my toil, f Plenty of hurry and strain and stress, And between us two and the work we do, f Plenty of work we've seen; . We're making the old pot boil ; Our days weren't specially filled with ease " Yes, we do our stint in the way of print And we've chiefly had our fun To garner the useful dollar, t By the tunes we've played on these lettered keys When a job's in sight we are there, all right, IAnd the galleys of workfrtfve done ! . Me and my Mergenthaler ! For the ems we've pet are a lot, you bet, We've done our work in the world's advance, And thousands of slugs we've cast, We've thrilled with its woe or weal, We have played our part in the printing art We're humble tools of the new romance For many a year that's past; That lives in this age of steel; We have the lore of peace and war In pica, minion or agate fine, And the news that the newsboys holler, We've moulded the thoughts of men We have brought it hot from the metal pot, And made them fit for the printed line, Me and my Mergenthaler I Then melted them up again. The matrices drop with a busy click So I'm rather keen for this good machine And the motor it whirrs a song, Which has quickened the printing pace, And the galley fills up stick by stick Which has taken the irk from the printer s work 4A As we hustle the slugs along, At the old composing case, TIP And' tch the elevator bring Which has answered the need of greater speed, ItsTong arm into play, Yet tempered the foreman's choler, Till this steel machine seems a living thing And I want to declare we're a suef ul pair, That works in a human way.
