atten attended ded the carbon em try fair which came to a clos this afternoon Oter noon after a three day session Thedis the displays plas of the products mentioned were largo large and of enc excellent ellent quality and aud many people from other states have told the editor of the avs that they were more than surprised at the variety and quality of products of eastern utah fa farms orchards apiaries and ranges the fair opened tuesday in a aling rain min which later developed into a snow storm and the attend ance was as a consequence very ight and on wednesday the temper abare was suitable for overcoats and am furs but fully fifteen hundred people passed through the gates that afternoon and witnessed sed the races and d sports this afternoon the attendance was not as good as yesterday but the promoters of the fair feel repaid for their efforts and expenditures tures to make the fair a success and it has been a success except as money making proposition for it w bas demonstrated to thousands anat they never knew before that carboa carbon and emery counties are not only the best coal fields in the united states but they can also feed their people and not half try the writer has attended county N W state fairs in many of the states but he never saw finer fruit oats honey potatoe pot atoe eb onions and other vegetables cattle poultry or horses that were on display this week the hog display was ut but good and while there were no sheep on display which we greaty greatly ly regret considering that shepp sheep is one of the tile principal industries of th many compliments on its fruit anti agricultural displays prof ruf john T caine III professor oj of animal husbandry at the state agricultural ri college who judged the merits ants of the live stock also spoke very highly of the fair as a whole one member of the boys potato club brought in an excellent display of potatoes but it arrived after the judge had left and consequently won no prize but the exhibit will be sent to the state fair races and sports while not as speedy as many had expected there was enough racing to give vim to the program tuesday there was a quarter mile dash which was aline district t on wednesday afternoon the sports opened with a football game between the carbon county high school bivs and und the academy gladiators the former winning by a score of 51 to 6 both teams had bad their rooters in large and loud numbers william swasey of orangeville Orang eville gave a thrilling exhibition by riding a wild bull that was as worth the price of admission bill stuck until the beast threw its itself if by running into rf the corral fence this event was followed bv a spirited ted three eights mile horse race which was won by ed sorrel horse vi with ith P J jensens nag second and june horse third leo anderson on high tover cave gave a busting exhibition that was exciting until the animal cooled down and quit A half mile dash aas as won by a horse entered by melvin par parry ry with ed robinsons horse second ed mcelprang also started on what promised to Z be the winning horse buethe but the animal ran into the fence and threw the rider joo joe swasey of molen gave a nice rough riding exhibition on a beast called scissors and frankie thompson of ninemile nine mile rode a little buckskin bronc brone that put up a good fight the price town team an and d the high school nine put up a good five inning game of baseball wb which lab wap was won by the town boy boys by a score of 7 to 1 miller and ford sent sen tand and rove ived for the town team with br empey in the same positions sit ions for the highs the first contest thursday af afternoon ter was the baby show and the little of mr and mrs G T olsen of emery was given first prize and the five months old daug daughter liter of mr and mrs ed mcelprang of huntington got second money three bronco buster gave an ex hibi tion at roping and riding three cows the riding was good but the tho boa bois s sure lacked some of being ropers the quarter mile dash was won by ed sorrel horse with G T olsons bay second and peter jensens Jen sona bobby third the ay 2 mile relay race with ith june whitmore Whit riding for carbon and grant swasey for emery furnished plenty of thrills on the first round both horses went through the fence but the riders came to the scra scratch tell changed hors horses and it was a race until the thelast last change had been made shortly af after ter starting on the last lap burse ran into the outside fence threw his rider and bruised him up pretty badly while this was going on Whit moros horse did the same trick with his rider but fortunately did not fall on the boy while badly shaken up whitmore Whit moro rode out the race and won the prize 50 swasey was brought to town and his injuries were dressed when the horse first bolted mount owned by doll fausett was so badly injured that it was later shot the yard footrace was won by milton olsen from al 1 jensen I 1 after the emery stake and carbon county haigh school boys had played three innings of a ball game the event was called off and the money given the visitors as they were ahead when the game stopped eight men lynn fausett Pau sett milt miller and carl and claude empey for carbou and olsen acord wilburg and jensen for emery county ran a relay race of 3 ards 3 bards ards to the man and the carbon team won the event bill bil broeker in tin lizzie the little ford won the five mile auto race raco from bill austin who drove a viele 40 the race was an exciting one and most people were ere glad when it was over remembering the upset up set of a machine on the same track on july 4 last the hour being late and the tile people anxious to go home all other events were called off
