Show SALE OF EXTRACTS AND SUBSTITUTES Federal Prohibition Director Cites Provisions and Penalties of Prohibition Law. So many reports have come to this office relative to the sale of extracts, substitutes and imitations which aro being sold as intoxicating beverages, ( I deem it adsivable to call your attention at-tention to the provisions of the National Na-tional Prohibition Act which state's that any person, whoshall knowingly sell any denatured alcohol or denatured dena-tured rum, medicinal preparations manufactured in accordance with tho formulae prescribed by the United Stntes Phurmacoposja , andNatfonnj Foriimlary, or tho American Institute of Homeopathy, patented, patent nnd proprietary medicines, toilet, medicinal, medicin-al, and antiseptic preparations and solutions for bevcrnge purposes or sirup for intoxicating beverage- purposes, pur-poses, o who shall sell any of tho siime under circumstances from which the Bellcr might l-cnsonubly deduce the intention of the purchaser to use them for such purpose, or shnll sell any beverugo containing onc-hulf of 1 per centum or more of nlcohol by ! volume in which any extract, sirup or other article is used as an ingredient, shnll be subjected to the penalties provided in tho Prohibition Act. Penalties covering the first offenso are a fine of not less than $100 or more than !1,000, or be imprisoned not exceeding six months, nnd for the second or subsequent ollense shall be fined not less than $200 nor more than $2,000 and be imprisoned not less than one month nor more thun five years. Merchants must not underestimate thoir responsibility in tho sale of extracts, ex-tracts, substitutes and imitations containing con-taining more than one-hulf of one percent per-cent of nlcohol by volume, nnd are being used by young as well as old men for beverage purposes. Sheriffs, County Atorneys, County Commissioners are ureged to see that tho law is strictly enforced as the sale of such liquor is not merely an offense under tho Federal but under the state law. The use of extracts, substitutes and imitations for hover-ago hover-ago purposes is a growing menace. Warning should bo at once served upon all merchants to desist in the sale of extracts, substitutes and imitations imi-tations for beverngo purposes, whore such contain excess quantities of alcohol, al-cohol, whero tho mcrchnnts have reason to beliovo that same are being used for beveragu purposes. I will aprcciate any report of nny infraction, giving nnmds, places and n I full account of tho incident where in-l in-l toxicntion hns occurred.
