Show SCOOTS TO VISIT i ROOSEVELT'S GRAVE Fifty Who Rank Highest at Akron! to Be Guests of Goodyear Rubber Company. Fifty of Akron's Boy Scouts will, make an automobile pilgrimage to the ' grave of Theodore Roosevelt at Oys-1 tor Bay, L. I., on July 1 to pay homage to "The Great American" and all that his ideals, courage and spirit of ad-1 venture stood for in the minds of the youth of America. , --jf At the shrine of the lion-hearted ' & American, tho memory of whom will i 1&- never dim, tho scouts will hold a short ''& service and pay silent tributo to the i great leader of men whoso life was I an inspiration to the youth of the U land. i The third annual trip to be given H the Boy Scouts by the Goodyear Tire H and Rubber Company, will begin on II June 20 and end on July 10. Selec-K Selec-K tion of tho 50 boys will be made withal, with-al, in the next two days at a field day when various scout troops in Akron will designate their best scouts to take a competitive test of the scout work. The 50 who rank highest will R- be chosen to make the pilgrimage. ' Unlike last year, the trip will cover an entirely different section of the country. The big, pneumatically cushioned trucks from the company's i freight line will carry tho boys 90 i miles a day, with four hours travel in S tno morn'nP and two hours and a half m ! H From Akron the trucks will travel to Pittsburg, Bedford, Gettysburg, HH Philadelphia nnd New York, with tho Si stop-over at Oyster Bay. Perhaps tho Kf most pleasant and eagerly anticipated jfff part of the trip will be the three-days 9K stop at the national Boy Scout camp at Bear Mountain near West Point, Ml Now York. Here the boys will mingle JH with scouts from other sections of H the country, compete with them in IK athletics and mako now acquaintances. K On July 2 tho return trip will be H started by way of Goshen, Elmira, IB Avalon,. Buffalo nnd Niagra Falls, ' aK where the boys will be allowed time to IB view tho mighty waterfall. Erie will !B be the final stop before arrivel in K Akron. K The intinernry will take the cars' aavs vaK Jhmmm over tho splendid roads of the Lincoln , Highwny and through country famous for its scenic bcuuty. Camp will bo made early each day so that tho best sites may be selected and plenty of tjmo afforded to take evpj-y advantage 6t tho rolling kitchen "that will accompany ac-company the truck train. , Interest in the trip is intense and I the rivalry for selection as members I of tho party has given a trcmenduous impetus to perfection in scout work. |
