Provo, April 18 Tho arrangement arrange-ment of tho Calendar of the present school year at the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University, has in somo respects, been experimental. experiment-al. This has been especially true in regard to holding school during dur-ing tho winter months on Saturday. Satur-day. Tho success of the experiment exper-iment however, wan ants the continuance con-tinuance of Saturday schools next year. The teachers, in tho main, are opposed to tho plan, as it requires re-quires unusually strenuous labors on their part during part of tho year; but when the students were recently given an opportunity oppor-tunity for expression on the question, a very decided majority majori-ty voted in favor of Saturday school during tho winter months. Tho authorities of tho school take the position that the school is run for tho benefit of tho students stu-dents and not tho teachers, and accordingly decided in favor of tho Saturday school plan. Tho spring vacation has been found to be an advantago as it gives tho farmer boys and others an opportunity' to work at a season of tho year when work is very urgont, and enables them to remain in school until tho end of tho year. Next school year commences with entrance examinations and registration on Monday, October 7th, and class instruction begins the following day. |
